Join the IYCN Project during World Breastfeeding Week 2009

A message from the Infant & Young Child Nutrition (IYCN) Project

August 3, 2009

Greetings from Nigeria,

As World Breastfeeding Week kicks off, I’m in Abuja working to start up new IYCN Project activities. Last Friday, I attended a press briefing to launch Nigeria’s World Breastfeeding Week events. Later in the week, I’ll travel to Kenya, where IYCN will sponsor a National Infant and Young Child Feeding Stakeholders’ Meeting on Thursday. Look for an update from me about the meeting on the IYCN website later in the week.

For this year’s campaign, we join partners around the globe to highlight the critical role of breastfeeding before and during emergencies worldwide. The theme is Breastfeeding: A Vital Emergency Response. Are you ready? To commemorate this important campaign, IYCN will share updates on breastfeeding in emergencies, news from the field, and more.

Starting tomorrow, look for daily email messages on important infant feeding topics. Together with our partners, we’ll bring you the latest information, announcements, and resources on infant feeding in emergencies, infant feeding and HIV, community-based approaches to infant feeding, and infant feeding during and after illness.

And during the week, we invite you to visit our website to read reports from our team in the field. From a media campaign in Zambia to my participation in the Stakeholders’ Meeting in Kenya, we’ll share news and photos from our World Breastfeeding Week activities around the world.

We look forward to joining our partners in this global effort to promote good breastfeeding practices.

Visit the IYCN website to view a video from Zambia’s media campaign and learn more about our other World Breastfeeding Week activities.

Sincerely,

Denise Lionetti, Project Director
